When would-be Apprentice Alex Britez Cabral, 28, was fired on Wednesday night by Lord Sugar on the grounds that he talked a lot but didn’t actually do anything (what a thing to say about an estate agent!), viewers couldn’t have known that the opposite is true.

A week ago, Alex was one of three have-a-go estate agency heroes who rushed from their offices to the aid of an off-duty policeman.

Alex, who works at Cluttons in Battersea, London, was joined by agents from nearby Marsh & Parsons and Rampton Baseley.

Andrew Lees, of Marsh & Parsons, works in the Clapham office and was just visiting the Battersea office to pick up keys when the drama kicked off. Joel Baseley, partner at Rampton Baseley, also dashed from his office to help.

Out on the street, a man on a bike snatched a mobile phone from a woman passer-by. The off-duty policeman tried to block the thief’s getaway but a scuffle ensued.

Seeing what was going on, the three agents rushed to help and wrestled the man to the ground where he bit the police officer, and they struggled to restrain him until back-up arrived.

Joel Baseley said: “It felt like the longest five minutes of my life.”

A police spokesman said: “We always encourage people to dial 999, but it is also important to show gratitude to those who are active, responsible citizens.”

* Shane Gordon, 23, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody after appearing at South-West London Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with robbery and actual bodily harm. He will appear again at Kingston Crown Court on May 16.

I once stopped to assist an elderly lady who had fallen over, along with another lady who stopped to help we took her to the medical centre where she was checked over, then took her home and got hold of her son to let him know what had happened, she was okay except a bump on the head and it all ended well. She sent me a nice note a few days later……………………..Made me late for my valuation though so wish I hadn’t bothered.

Don’t even get me started on the old boy I stopped for that slipped on the ice and banged his head and smashed his glasses, along with another motorist we helped him up, made sure he was warm, did first aid with some help from the corner shop owner and his first aid kit and stayed with him until the ambulance arrived………………..id just picked up a Starbucks latte and by the time id finished with the inconsiderate old man and got back in the car it had gone cold...............should have know better than to help someone, don’t know why I bother.

As an EA I don’t think im cut out for helping people, we are all fundamentally bad citizens only interested in the next instruction or deal or who we can rip off, these lads helping a copper out really are letting the industry down, decent acts like this are to be left to proper people with proper jobs and honest lives

Considering they're not selling many houses, maybe EA's could be enlisted to perform other socially useful duties rather than just knocking around the office all day. Any ideas?

It could also provide them with some valuable training for the future.
