Rightmove’s campaign against overpricing drew to a close last week after more than 375,000 unique visitors accessed the campaign’s home page.
Launched in August, the Market Intelligence campaign adopted an interactive video to stress to sellers and landlords the importance of research in preparing their property for market in order to maximise the impact of their agent’s property advert.
Rightmove member agents have been able to use the tag line of ‘three seconds to make an impression’ to help encourage sellers and landlords to make their properties stand out by thinking carefully about the three P’s: price, promotion and presentation.
Rightmove director Miles Shipside said: “The Market Intelligence campaign was all about underlining the importance of creating the best first impression with the three Ps, and what a central role Rightmove member agents play in making the most of those three key elements.
“Recent Rightmove research uncovered that on average a property has around three seconds to grab the attention of a home-hunter via the summary results page.
“Our message to vendors and landlords is that the best way of making sure you stand out in those crucial three seconds is to work closely with a Rightmove agent in order to benefit from their local expertise.”
Rightmove’s campaign featured a cutting-edge video which took users on a virtual helicopter tour of their local area, feeding in the latest house price trend data.
Shipside added: “Consumers have enjoyed the helicopter tour we have taken them on, with over 2,000 hours of ‘flying time’ clocked up!”

Good morning.
Point taken, but one of the first rules of marketing is to get noticed, not to use pure grammar or formulation. See major advertisers?.
You did notice it! ;>)
Come on Raymondo form a sentence properly!
If it is worth it to you - use it.
If it is not worth it to you - walk.
Use a free site
Simple.
Ah the three "P"s. Do they stand for:
Taking the P*ss
Screwing the Pounds
Being ever so Patronising?
Just wondered!
it really is truly amazing.
This story is not about Rightmove rates, try a little bit of 1+1, it is about the marketplace and would guess what half the people on here that are moaning about a few ££s to Rightmove are creating.
If you stop over valuing and dropping your trousers regards fee's then maybe you would sell more units and make more money instead of moaning about spending around £10 a month to have a property on Rightmove. Shocking that figure £10 per in instruction a month roughly, please grow up. And the best part countrywide and connells are the worst offenders in our town for over valuing and they have a 20% share in the Zoopla.
Also for the Zoopla fans, 3 weeks ago they werent going to increase prices and within a month they make a statement they are going to - very wrong or maybe not, what are your thoughts on this? At least RM have the balls not to lie.
they would be out working but seems alot of Zoopla reps on here today.
Try cutting down on the number of times you go on to RM and Zoopla for your comparables, market research etc and hey presto their visitor numbers will plummet by possibly around one million a month! Ironic isnt it, they increase their prices because of the traffic they say they get - when in reality about 25-35% is us looking at each other !
Starting using Property live (or any other free site) for your comparables and market research, hit the other two where it hurts!
Zoopla already have put there prices up. The wanted to charge us £399 plus Vat per month! I told them where to go. Seems they are getting the Rightmove attitude!!
Zooplalaready have put there prices up. The wanted to charge us £399 plus Vat per month! I told them where to go. Seems they are getting the Rightmove attitude!!
No foothold in Scotland for either firm. WrongMove wanted £650 per month and Zoopla £110 per month. Guess who I went with? If Zoopla increase fee levels to the same rate as Rightmove then I shall cancel my membership. Based in Edinburgh does have its advantages as we have the ESPC.COM. It works well and I see no reason why this can not work in England? Agents need to start working together to stop this monopoly before it is too late. (Easier said than done I know)
Nothing like having 'Rightmove' in the title to get the blood pumping!
There's only 2 players out there so make a choice, if you can afford it then take both. There are no alternatives and we'll never start anything ourselves because it's not in our nature to work together.
We can hardly claim the higher ground about competing on price so lets put this one to bed, once and for all.
My fees to RM are ZERO because I left, what are you gong to do?
Zoopla maybe al people can talk about, but they are going to hike their prices.
Was paying £245 with Zoopla pre-merger and £399 to TDPG.
Had our first ZPG bill through two weeks ago and they have simply added these together now to £645.
Had no contact from ZPG re pricing, so called up our rep who really had no argument except for that we should be getting more leads, which we aren't. I am now awaiting a call back and unless a healthy reduction, I will simply leave.
In terms of Rightmove, they arent in my good books either, but i am getting the leads from them. We pay them £666 per month sales and lettings.
I have been a great believer in Rightmove as most of you have but I agree that the cost of it is now getting prohibitive. However the more you bash them and get agents to leave and go to Zoopla, which is a rip off of Rightmove with a selection of the old Rightmove directors, you will fragment the market for the potential buyers and you will end up having to be on both sites. Also dont forget that the Zoopla owners are basically the newspapers that have been screwing us for years and our corporate competitors. Are we stupid or what ????
So, Rightmove spend a fortune of our funds patronising agents and the public, on what is completely bleeding obvious.
Nice one Shippy. The standard of your work is very consistent.
Well said everyone. That kid Shipside doesn't have a clue about client relations.
BTW Miles, you can roll up your desktop calendar into cylinder shape and file it in your out tray.
Perhaps Rightmove should have an internal anti-overpricing campaign... ?
They are delivering less and charging more.
All these gimmicks & pointless 'tools' which no discerning agent uses are used as an excuse to hike prices.
Just my tuppenceworth...
Zoopla will increase their fee's to Rightmove's level anyway, it's just a matter of time. These companies should focus on keeping their paying customers happy rather than trying to squeeze as much out of us as possible.
Agree with Rooster.
As long as Zoopla are not too greedy when they impose their price hike/strategy in 2013, I shall be walking away from Rightmove. Agree, years since a potential client asked if we use them.
Walked away from newspapers a few months ago, noone has even commented, has made no discernible difference & the property pages now are almost exclusively given over to New Homes developments & infotorials.
PW. I've already done that. But naturally wouldn't mind being able to use both as desired!!
What a load of trite rubbish! The tide is on the turn and now's the time to leave Rightmove. Has anybody else noticed the drop in potential clients over the last few months who ask if you are on Rightmove? Zoopla is gaining ground fast. If 15% leave Rightmove it willl lose its quasi-monopoly position overnight, the public will no longer see it as the bee all and end all and then more agents will leave. Perhaps we're there at last!
Honestly, this is incredible. Whoever thought up this scheme, which incidentally we have heard of, has never been on a valuation up against somebody who has topped it to get the instruction. Is this the day Rightmove suddenly became Betamax?
When will people who keep complaining about Rightmove fees, do something about it? Move over to Zoopla!
Since changing to Zoopla I have had a 60% increase in enquiries and 80% increase in Landlord enquiries.
WHO NEEDS RIGHTMOVE!
Fully agree with Richard Turpin (like the name by the way!), and others so far.
Truly ironic.
The irony of this campaign leaves me speechless.
Richard, that was immediately the thought that hit me!!
I also wonder when Rightmove will stop telling agents how to do their jobs (as if there's is the only tool we use!) and find some 'market intelligence' of their own. i.e. Reduce their rates to a reasonable level before we all leave them for Zoopla or spend on other marketing.
When I first read the headline my first thought was that it was the agents who had taken flight from Rightmove after their own price increase 'campaign'........per chance to dream eh ? The three Rightmove P's ? pounds, pounds, pounds ?
Nice to know how they justify their fees. Helicopter rides? Whatever next? Trips out of this world?
Nah. That's just their fees - out of this world !!
