A new scheme to recognise and reward women working in the property industry has opened.

The Property Awards for Women will be a highlight at the new Innovative Property Show on November 3 at Wembley Stadium.

The top award, for Outstanding Commitment to Excellence, will be presented by new TV ‘dragon’ Karren Brady.

Other categories are for Woman Business Owner of the Year and PA of the Year, and the awards covering estate agency, lettings, financial services, new homes, conveyancing, training and customer service.

The awards celebrate the achievements of women working in all levels of the industry and at all sizes of office.

You can go online to make your nominations for the scheme, where the judges include Clare Fletcher, Ruth Lilley, Peter Rollings, Bill McClintock and Peter Brodnicki.

Maybe I'm betraying my gender, but I don't think this is a great idea either. What's the point in being the 'Best Female'? You've eliminated half the competition!

Stick us all in together, then we will REALLY find out who the weaker sex is!

‘’The chicks do need a night out so why not, love em as we do we couldn’t do the job without the birds in the office brightening the place up, especially the fit ones around this time of year as the weather gets better, know wot I mean eh?’’

…………….. is this really needed? What’s next, Black & Asian Estate Agents of the year? Gay, Lesbian & transgender awards in Property

Anyway what do I know im a straight white male but does the workplace need splitting not groups based on gender and all that, ive met great women EA’s and some dreadful ones. I have female staff that outperform male staff one month then get whipped by them the next.

Ladies, I think it’s for you to decide if this is the way forward, to me it sounds like a money making event rather that’s answering a question no ones asking.

Plus if Peter Brodnicki of MAB is on the judging panel the winner will be the prettiest, look out girls that lad is smooth……………’room 209, bring a friend’

One company I worked for believed women actually made better valuers than men, as it is often the woman who makes the decision to move (you can't argue with that bit PeeBee!) and so they prefer to deal with a woman.

Not entirely sure I agree with it, but there is some merit to the theory. But, as with everything, some men are better than women, and some women are better than men!

    Correction

    Denise:

You say: "In property sales men and women should be treated equally "

PRECISELY, but equality in everything - you cannot have it both ways.

Denise: "In nearly 20 years in the letting/management industry I have never heard of or met a man in property management who was in any way as good as the women I have known or heard of in the industry."

And in 33 years in the property industry I have never met or heard of ANYONE, male OR female, who has engaged with so few other professionals as you clearly have, to have such a blinkered and biased opinion...

How very patronising " ......... to recognise and reward women in the property industry ..." In property sales men and women should be treated equally because the job mainly requires good negotiation skills and those are not gender specific. But it is an entirely different matter in the letting industry - and more specifically the whole property management side of it - because women, generally speaking, are much more used to resolving the day to day problems involved in running a home whilst placating difficult and demanding occupants!

In nearly 20 years in the letting/management industry I have never heard of or met a man in property management who was in any way as good as the women I have known or heard of in the industry. In my opinion women deserve to be canonised and not patronised!

    'totty'?? Nice.

That being said, it is a bit sexist to have it just for women. What, so we can't compete against the men? I know some people who prefer female Agents!

It could be an excellent opportunity to pull though. The place will be wall to wall with totty.
