There! We knew that would get you. Welcome to EAT's new arts column.

And first to what is described as a biting comedy about estate agents, and the UK premier (in a theatre in a room over a pub in Battersea) is on April 21.

Apparently, Sold is a play about five agents competing for a multi-million pound property (we wish!).

It’s a world in which the sale comes first and everything else takes a back seat. In this cut-throat world of materialism, someone is fighting off a mid-life crisis and someone else is fighting off a colleague.

According to the publicity blurb, it’s an environment where the drive for material success eclipses the desire for meaningful relationships (this doesn't rule out one-night stands, obviously).

Whew! In other words, it’s the everyday story of a typical estate agency.

Well, EAT has tried our best to make it sound exciting.

Unfortunately, we fear that the real thing may be a bit too arty for us, judging by the mentions of Edinburgh Festival, Royal Court, etc.

However, EAT can instead truly recommend another very gripping, if somewhat more lowbrow, arts offering.

A novel called Still Missing, by Chevy Stevens, features an open house viewing, an American estate agent’s abduction, and all kinds of twists and turns.

The suspense kept a white-knuckled EAT awake for a night, as (be warned) it’s impossible to open it and then put it down.

Highly recommended (paperback, £4.48 on Amazon).

Thought this was going to be some study about 'Sex Sells'

Or a spin-off of Sex and The City. Might be interesting to see as a TV series, that.........

Not for me, sadly, philistine that I am.

I did enjoy the ITV series 'Sold', though with that bloke out of the BT adverts. Whoever wrote that, clearly spent time working for one of the Countrywide agents.
