Proposals for regulating buy-to-let mortgages have been shelved for the time being.

The original Government proposal was that buy-to let mortgages should become subject to Financial Services Act regulation.

This is no longer the case, as the Government says it now accepts that further investigative work is needed to clarify the role of buy-to-let.

In particular, the impact of regulation on professional landlords, and also on the role of advisers in promoting possibly harmful practices, will be examined.
