Among the contenders circling the property portal industry, new website Needaproperty has stressed it is serious about taking on Rightmove and Zoopla.

Needaproperty, which launched last year, says it will be “investing heavily” this year and is due to launch a new platform next month which it says will offer a state-of-the art search engine, as well as a cheaper alternative for agents.

CEO Scott Green, a former estate agent, pictured, said: “Needaproperty.com has grown from strength to strength in the last year, which has allowed us to invest in a very user-friendly, yet fast and sophisticated new platform.

“We are now well on our way to offering a credible alternative to the two UK property portals which are currently dominating the market.

“In addition to all the search criteria our competitors offer, our site will be easier to use, with additional information and functionality, but at a much lower cost to our estate agent clients.”

Seems to me to be a bit of a chicken and an egg situation in the property portal business.

Until the site has a lot of visitors, the agents won't get a lot of leads, visitors are drawn to the site by content, but if the agents won't support the site and fill it with content because they don't get leads, then the visitors won't come in the first place.

And what stops the agents filling the sites? Well because they have to pay for he privilege.

So what you need is a free site, that you can stick your properties on to your hearts content without spending a penny, then once that free site is full to overflowing with content, they can launch a global advertising campaign so that the site receives vast numbers of visitors every day and begins to generate the leads the estate agents crave.

Hmm! If only a site like that had been launched recently.

After having extended the "free trial" for 18 months now and only received 3 rubbish leads I've knocked it on the head.

Especially with their mandatory direct debit setup they are obvioulsly relying on customers NOT to cancel in order to win income...

yawn, boring, call me when you have 50 leads a month for me.

So a person working for himself is determined to make his company work, hardly a news story, just the norm.
