Hamptons International has announced the launch of the ‘Hamptons Academy’, a new training programme designed specifically for individuals wanting to embark on a career in property.

The first trainees will begin in May and there will be two intakes per year, with the aim of recruiting up to six or eight each time.

Successful applicants will be offered a six-month training programme in a dedicated ‘Hamptons Academy’ office with one-to-one coaching and a senior mentor.

Andrew Brown, head of Human Resources, said: “The Hamptons Academy has been established to identify, train and develop those individuals with natural attributes that will make them great sales people.

“At a time when unemployment is high, the Academy will create fantastic opportunities for those who have a desire to succeed and possess the necessary attributes to work at Hamptons International: energy, enthusiasm, confidence and a passion for property.”

To apply, applicants have to submit a short video, together with an updated CV to demonstrate their enthusiasm and key attributes.

Brown said: “We want our candidates to think ‘out of the box’ and show us in a video format why they stand apart from the competition.

“Previous property experience is not important – our aim is to find candidates who understand our culture and have a desire to succeed.”

From the comments we have been receiving on our blog about the differences between the training and qualifications required for US agents compared to UK agents, I think it would do the industry good to raise the publics perception of better training.

From the feedback we have been getting it seems like at present the public perception is that you simply need a suit and a smile to be an estate agent in the UK.

Not my views but those of my readers.

    Check it out here.

    Oooh, sign me up!

Actually, the training provided by Countrywide is supposed to be brilliant overall, so I suppose this is good news.

It will also attract the right type of employees and make sure that there is a public perception of better training.

Quite a smart move I think.
