Things must be looking up at Foxtons. Fresh from reporting a not so-mini loss of £218m in its latest accounts, it has just launched its latest fleets of Minis.

The latest rebranded Mini hits the streets of London and Surrey this week with what the firm says is its most innovative look yet – if you like skeletons, that is

Oh, and by the way, it’s art, darlings.

Using a radiography machine, the car has been X-rayed and photographed by contemporary artist Nick Veasey before these are applied to vinyl panels and smoothed on to the fleet’s bodywork.

The Foxtons’ website is included subtly in the design, which also features an X-rayed key fob hanging from the ignition on the Mini’s right-hand door and an X-rayed chassis.

Veasey said:  “It’s great that Foxtons has such a large fleet of these Minis. Every artist wants to connect with the public, and by bringing my art to the streets of London I can reach out to people rather than trying to get them into a gallery.

“I do hope it makes people stop and think for a second about how things are made and what goes on under the surface. Beauty, after all, is more than skin deep.”

Former Mini designs have included a re-hashed 1959 Mini Cooper, a sporting ‘Italian Job’, a 2004 sixties-style ‘hippy Mini’ and a tartan ‘punk’ version. Then there was the ‘Space’ livery that transformed the fleet into space rockets.

As for that late-reported pre-tax maxi-loss, the £218m was for the year ending December 2008, mostly due to interest payments and writedown in goodwill.

"features an X-rayed key fob" - what is significant about an x-rayed key fob, can you not see that the whole design is the x-ray of someone sitting inside???
