Latest figures have shown that the combined site traffic to all four of the Digital Property Group’s portals puts it behind the single Rightmove site but ahead of the combined Zoopla sites.

Total visitors in January, according to comScore, give Rightmove the lead with 3.94m; in second place comes Digital with 3.78m visitors to Primelocation FindaProperty, Globrix and FindaNewHome; and in third place is Zoopla, which includes Zoopla, Propertyfinder and Thinkproperty, with 1.72m.

Digital claimed that it is now a serious contender and the only genuine competitor for the number one portal position.

Its recent  acquisition of a 50% stake in Globrix has increased traffic to its websites by about 0.78m visitors.

Andrew Smith, Digital’s head of research, said: “We have significantly reduced the gap between us and Rightmove. The comScore figures are clear evidence that we are fast closing in on the number one position.

“The property portal market has stabilised after a spate of acquisitions. Our analysis shows that those portals which were losing consumer traction prior to purchase have continued to do so post-acquisition. In the case of Globrix, January saw a 145% increase in year-on-year visitors which has positively influenced our monthly totals.”

Gary you are so right and that is exactly what we are all doing in the South West.We are all working together in growing our own property website and although it is early days we have 2 offices on the site and already there are over 350 members. If that is not unity then what is.Take a look at our website radarhomes.co.uk and join us if you are in the South West area.

J.Elgar is, as you all say wrong, however he is no different to many agents who believe Google will be the saviour from RM.
The truth is Google will drive traffic to portals before it drives traffic to individual agents websites simply due to the amount of content there is within a portal compared to an agents own site. The properties we supply to RM etc is collectively powerfull, therefore agents working together is collectively powerfull. The question is how can we start working together and pulling our combined strength together to fight back against RM and there year on year increasing charges.I know it's a David and Goliath scenario but we all know who won that fight!

I know, lets set a website, charge agents £400 quid and treat them like muppets....Dont be silly who in their right mind would pay to be on a website when there are 10 free ones??

    SUCKERS!!!!

Sorry, just to add, if what you (J Elgar)babbles does come true. What would your role then be if as you say,"all we need to do is upload to them...period".
My 10 year old daughter can do that.
    Who would need you?

J Elgar...sorry to burst your bubble but, your fair godmother is not comming to save you. If you have seen the new Google offering in Australia you would know that it will not kill off RM, nor is it designed to do so.
Estate agents are chicken feed to Google. Not so with RM, they protect your position by excluding the great unwashed.
How confident are you that Google, where they to be in that position, would do the same.

J Elgar...you are wrong about google. They are NOT going to be a portal in compeition with RM et al. They are going to be a (vertical)search enginge meaning that Google will return to its users results of property for sale FROM ALL THE PORTALS. It will be a bit like Nestoria who also provide paid for traffic to the portals (not to agents). Bad news for Nestoria. They question you should be worried about is whether Google allow private listings along side the portal listings

Don't worry chaps......... the mighty GOOGLE will be wiping out the traditional portals soon & all we need to do is upload to them.....period.
As everyone knows Google, why would searchers even bother trying remember Rightsearch, Primemover, Propertysearcher,
Zoophouse,Findabungalow, Blowtrix, blah de blah de blah ?

Gary, member agents already have their own site - Propertylive.
All it needs is constant advertising by agents to make it a viable competitor - just like the free advertising most agents have given to RM over the years.

Makes sense to me - i get a great return from their sites, much better than any other portal. Stands to reason they're doing to well - keep up the good work!

In that case how come I've only had 2 email leads from FP since the start of the year where as I get an average of 5 a day from RM.
Personally I hate RM and would gladly leave them but I am afraid to say there is no competition for them at the moment.Saying that if FP/PL and all that lot did manage to wrestle control from RM(Which they never will) they would only charge us more themselves,so better the devil you know I guess.
It is about time all us agents got together and created our own portal. We supply the properties to these bloody portals and then get charged for the privilege. RM should make their money from data and advertising etc and then allow agents to advertise for free as we drive the traffic to the site.Without us RM would be nothing.
