60 Second Interview
Name:
Henry Pryor, housing market pundit, pig breeder and inventor
What does it say on your business card:
I don’t have one. If someone needs my contact details they get it by email, text or SMS.
Where is your business based:
London
How hard have you found the recession?
Tough, although I’m very conscious that it has been much, much tougher for so many others in the industry. The number of sales are down 70% from the peak, fees are down with many agents charging under 1% and the prices that these fees are based upon are down 25%. So it’s no surprise that whilst many companies still put a brave face on it, many individuals have been savaged!
What lasting lessons will you take from it?
That some people really are just stupid. Follow your instincts and not the crowd.
If the Tories get in at the next Election, would you be sorry to see HIPs go?
No. I will gladly throw them on the corpse of New Labour.
Who is your property hero?
Tony Pidgley of Berkeley Homes. He is his own man, confident in his own judgements and never one to leave you unsure of what he thinks. The walking definition of an entrepreneur.
If you hadn’t been an agent, what would you have done instead?
Politics or the City. Sorry, politics and the City of course!
Random thought?
Why do people who respond to posts on EAT use false names and yet expect to be taken seriously? Surely the weight of an opinion is degraded by reading that it is the view of Winnie the Pooh.

| | Trevor - can I suggest when you preach then cut and paste to another blog, you change some of the patronising words! |
| |
As far as I'm aware, Henry is the only one to have tried to take on the obscene portal charges that we were faced with. His efforts last Christmas saved us over £6k a year and although he has been less successful with Rightmove, he certainly helped our negotiations with Primelocation.
Look forward to the 60 second interview with Scott and we can all learn what his contribution to the industry is. |

Now now boys and girls,behave!
You catch more flies with honey than vinegar. |
| | I don't know who is more pointless.. Henry Pryor or Trevor Mealham? |
| | Key to survival is A1 staff, managers and bosses. The poorly run offices will fold over the winter and at the moment are poorly staffed with bad staff that the few callers in really don't want to deal with when a better agent operates up the road. Presentation is also key, agents need kerb appeal to pull the clients and applicants in. The winter will kill off the badly run agencies. The strong will survive and thrive with lower post Xmas property prices. www.inea.co.uk / www.remoteagent.co.uk |
| | Quite right Winnie. Henry is a charming and delightful individual but what's his opinion worth if he's no longer on the front line of estate agency or anything else for that matter? |
| | Hi Henry. How are the pigs? Does your favourite one have a name like Bertie the Pig? |
| | Surely it is the argument judged by weight of logic and evidence in the comments that matter more than the name on the post? |
