Rightmove sends record daily leads to agents
Friday 9th January 2009A new daily record has been set by Rightmove this week, with more leads than ever sent to agents.
The portal claims that leads more than doubled on Monday – the first full working day this January – compared with the same day last year, showing that inquiry interest in the property market has leapt two-fold.
The new daily record for the website meant that nearly 44,500 leads were sent to agents on Monday, compared with 20,092 on the same day in 2008.
Miles Shipside, commercial director of Rightmove, said: “Our statistics show that inquiries about properties are flooding to estate agents at record levels. Sellers in distress are having to be more open to offers and prospective buyers who have been holding off for a few months are now busy inquiring about possible bargain purchases.”
He also suggested that prospective buyers are circling at the bottom of the market and that these are the ones inquiring in record numbers.

Get Profile | Brightmove - What decent business does not want business and will be positive to obtain it? How dare they be positive to win business, They have clearly got it wrong! they should be reporting the market is on its knees and the world is ending, coupled with subscribe to us and get no hits!...Everyone has a choice to make, yet no one seems to be making them! stay on, come off or swap to brightmove????????????? |

Get Profile | Rightmove wants your business and wants you to believe that they are the bees knees and if you don't belong then you are not going to survive in business. |

Get Profile | CB, to answer your question...NONE! Not one single buyer who can get a mortgage and wants to buy will be put off by any media speculation whatsoever. They see the house they want and they buy it. Thats why all the agents looking at this are still open. If all you get are wasters making excuses, that aint gonna change whatever you might read. They will always be wasters. A good agent will chuck them in the bin and deal with real buyers. Wake up! |

Get Profile | Could some of the doom and gloom that's being banded around the media be coming from agents by any chance? When are people going to realise that there are a great number of purchasers who CAN get a mortgage and WANT to buy a house but are being talked out of doing so. Yes the economy has got a lot to answer for but if you are an estate agent don't be negative about Rightmove trying to talk things up. If houses are priced at the right level and not 'bought' on like many agents still seem to be doing then you can sell them! Whenever I read these articles I can't help feeling that the animosity towards Rightmove is coming from the agents that have lived off the business that has fallen on their laps over the last few years. Here's an idea, stop moaning and start being positive! |

Get Profile | 50 mile radius and wont sell before they have found! Rik ''How many of these do you get''? Surely just to throw random remarks against RM is stirring up the ill feeling!!!!! or maybe geographically the UK has a hugely different storey to tell about RM, we honestly get ok leads, YES with useless ones too, but 50 miles!!!!! come on!!!!!....I am happy to support the figures quoted can be a bit misleading in terms of quality -v- quantity! but how many people get requests with a 50 mile radius! there has to be a balance......! |

Get Profile | If you want applicants from 100 miles away who are looking in a 50 mile triangle and not going on the market until they've found,,,keep with rightmove...sound familiar |

Get Profile | I myself prefer a nice easy to use site called www.Net-Lettings.co.uk - It targets London only (sorry about those not looking in the smoke). Basically it drives website traffic to your site and also provides general email enquiries. This comes out at a far reduced cost per lead/click than the likes of Rightmove and Primelocation. I have worked out that website traffic costs somewhere around 0.13p per qualified click. They also sent over 50 emails leads in that month which I consider to be a bonus given the cost they can provide a click for. This niche market website is a blinder and has been consistently improving. It is well worth looking around for some of the local portals, you don’t have to be dazzled by the leggy reps and TV advertising – there is plenty of other life out there. |

Get Profile | Get the best of both worlds - let and help Rightmove spin themselves off and help boost the market confidence, and then don't renew your fees like everyone keeps saying they are going to. (:-) |

Get Profile | RM seem to think we are all totally gullible. They have changed the presentation of their website during 2008. Before a lead usually related to a specific property. Now potential "buyers" can easily send a lead to any agent whose properties appear in their search result whether or not the property is what they are looking for. Therefore now the leads are a lot more general and often not relevant to the stock we hold. However, RM leads stats rocket. I look at the performance stats they produce and the number of details printed in 2008 was down 60% on 2007 with roughly the same number or properties. RM, please don't treat me like an idiot. |

Get Profile | Yes, Rightmove are relatively expensive, but they are subject to market forces, like any other business in a competitive environmment. If there are competitors catching them up, they may well look at there pricing policy, but at the moment, they are the best and most effective Portal, by far. If you can't accept their terms, why do you stay with them? I agree with those who welcome these statistics as the good news, we are waiting for. How much value will there be in promoting this to the public, to counter the pessimist 'experts' who are predicting a further 15% drop in prices this year! |

Get Profile | (stop whinging) Sense at last! we hate the media for the spin they put on the market and the gloom they report!..... yet when a source who are potentially very influencial talk the market up! (which lets be fair is what we should be doing!) we say no way that cant be true!....... Could it be just as ''Could it be'' posted if your stock is wrongly priced it is your fault you dont get the leads! The Estate Agents complaining of no leads take your best or worst house for that matter and half its price and ask yourself would you get a lead via rightmove on it!! obviously I hear, 50% is too cheap, your bound to get a lead. Thus proving the simple fact that it is your pricing which will help your leads! to just keep whinging at RM will not sell houses and it is not their fault if your prices are wrong! |
Posted By could it be on Friday 9th January 2009 11:08:02
Get Profile | Could it be the ones who are complaining on here about a lack of interest and leads on their properties have over priced stock or very little! I doubt it, it must be rightmoves fault they are not selling houses! get your prices right and start talking the talk, a transfer of enthusiasm is a wonderful thing in sales! |

Get Profile | Maybe Rightmove should concentrate on looking at the clarity of the lead passed across rather than the numbers they are boasting of!! |
Posted By Stop whinging! on Friday 9th January 2009 10:55:15
Get Profile | I work in the industry and speak to agents every day. All I have heard for the last few months is general slagging off of the media for its cries of doom and gloom and how they have made things so much worse. Then here we have RM, who I know we all dislike, actually saying something positive and all you can do is say they must be lying about their figures! What about them saying that there are buyers out there? That they are getting more enquiries right now? Stop whinging kids and take advantage of the New Year = new start enthusiasm. Joe public are a fickle creature and it may not last long so run with it. |

doesn't take a genius to realise they are talking about the 'first full working day in January'. Interesting piece though. |

Get Profile | More guff from Mr Shippy. So…this means RM’s average lead cost has dropped from £4.59 to £2.29? What a rip off. He fails to tell us that most sales leads are time wasters wanting more details, when all available details are already on RM. Thirty percent of tenant phone leads ask us ‘der yer tek DSS?’ when we clearly state that we do not. I think Shippy gets himself off by antagonising agents. |

Get Profile | There was a problem with our upload to rightmove during the Christmas break, which meant weekly rental prices were quoted as monthly. We received over 300 emails when we got back to work. I bet Rightmove included these as genuine leads. |

Get Profile | As if anyone believes in statistics! Please refer to "How to Lie With Statistics" written by Darrell Huff in 1954. The Best Seller of Statistics which is widely used by scientists. For example, it shows how graphs can be used to distort reality! A better use of Right Move's money will be to give lower rates to small independent Agents. |

Get Profile | Dorsetdc - It has been on a couple of times! money not well spent however, alittle cheesy and not that good, although took a couple of prime time advert spots! |
Posted By Dorsetdc on Friday 9th January 2009 10:24:56
Get Profile | All we ever get from Rightmove leads are requests for further details. I am at a loss as to why any applicant wants a printed copy of what they can see and print off on their own computer. And what has happened to their big New Years advertising campaign. Has anyone seen it? |
Posted By Ric on Friday 9th January 2009 10:24:25
Get Profile | I am not saying the total boast is true and I am not boasting about ourselves but credit where credit is due! I have been flooded with viewing requests, mortgage advice requests and letting requests this week from rightmove! and one of the viewings has resulted in an sale agreed. I dont even promote rightmove I only plug my own website so they only see my properties, however they are the only portal who have fed me viewings this week!!!! |
Posted By robbo on Friday 9th January 2009 10:20:44
Get Profile | The "same day last year" was Friday 5th Jan! - everyone was still on holiday so, a) they're not comparing like for like, and b) rightmove didn't blow their yearly advertising budget between boxing day and new year with the tv advert! If I advertised my agency massively over this period, I would be extremely cheesed off if I only doubled the no. of enquiries. In fact, upon reflection, the rightmove stat. is rather concerning - their enquireis should have quadroupled due to the advertising - ignoring any market factors. |
Posted By Andrew on Friday 9th January 2009 10:19:14
Get Profile | I can believe the stats - we have seen an incredible upturn in enquiries from Rightmove this week - our largest number in a week for many months. However - how many of these 44,000 were for lettings compared to residential sales? |
Posted By J P on Friday 9th January 2009 10:12:46
Get Profile | I'm not a fan of rightmove either, but if these figures get quoted in the press, it can only be a good thing for agents. |
Posted By Vossy on Friday 9th January 2009 10:09:33
Get Profile | Once again a quote from Rightmove - Praise be to them the almighty!! Rightmove do NOT have a monopoly on statistics. How about quoting from someone else? What Rightmove`s stats do not show is how many of these supposed "leads" were from serious buyers or just thoise looking at the market but who have no intention, or ability, to purchase property i.e. not fee earning enquiries. Have you seen the Rightmove acverts?...what a joke! |

Get Profile | WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH!!
Rightmove are just as bad at "spin" as MP's. Now that James Caan with his almighty wealth is backing look4aproperty.com they must be running scared, and about time too!!! |

Get Profile | Miles Slipshod said "Our statitisics show blah blah blah blah blah..." Rightmove seems to have aquired the 'LOTTO' factor. Its costing you money, you get nothing out of it, yet, to scared to pull out just in case. |
