Here’s today’s talking point: are women better at estate agency than men? And yes, we’re talking estate agency, not lettings, where of course women have long reigned supreme.

According to the organisers of the ESTAs (Estate & Letting Agent Awards), women estate agents are becoming more dominant and more successful.

In 2008 only 27% of winning sales offices were run by women, but this increased to 40% in 2009 and to 67% this year.

“A successful agent requires a multitude of skills – diplomat, marketeer and social worker – so perhaps there’s some truth in the saying that women are better at multi-tasking,” said ESTA organiser Simon Brown.

“It would also appear there may be a strong link between customer service provided and the profit.”

All six of Countrywide’s branches which won regional golds this year are run by female managers.

Grenville Turner, chief executive, said: “The ESTAs proves that there is a direct correlation between our most profitable agents and those that provide the best customer service.”

propertywizzard - "...its about skill not gender, I employ mainly women not because I think they do a better job, but because they have the required skill set..."
Sorry - isn't 'doing a better job' the win-win here? Required skills are great - IF the person actually puts them to use. I know some very 'skillful' people who I wouldn't employ if they came free of charge. Give me star performers anytime - male, female, whatever!

I'm with Ace if Spades on the arrogance thing. I have come across many male agents who are so arrogant they don't see that their own arrogance is both highly visible (to others) and a real turn off.

Seldom (but not never) have I come across such female agents.

Females are more inclined to listen (except when they are married to you).

In my opinion - a good neg is a good neg irrespective of the XY or XX genotype.

Ray Evans of Sheringham - you are a very brave man.

I have employed ONLY females in Sales and Lettings for 35 years - they a very competent in both diciplines
BUT - MOST are inclined to gossip a lot and do best by being directed and supervised by a man.
(this of course is just in my experience!)

If you are a seller, the agent with the buyer is the best agent. If you are a buyer, the agent with the property you want to buy is the best agent.

Sex doesn't come into it - well not often enough for me these days!

Some of the comments were quite good! Some were taking this article FAR too seriously!! From a public point of view, dealing with an EA, is a female EA better? Probably. In terms of buisness, females are stamping their authority more than ever - it's good for everyone. >>>>> (There are far too many male EAs who ooze arrogance and are hard to deal with - you simply never get this attitude from a female! For those who are a familiar, the EA in the Gavin and Stacey series?!)

All of our accompanied viewers are women. The selling point of this on a valuation is that after the viewing they can also clean the house for the clients. Good girls.

Of course woman make better Estate Agents than men - they make better sales people in general. Why? Because most decision makers are men who would rather deal with a woman than another man anyday!I dont think Monkey Tennis has ever met a woman as his description is that of a women in business and not most men!

In the USA, 73% of the top agents are women (source NAR). I understand that the top 3 previous careers of these agents are nurses, teachers and air hostesses. I suspect that these jobs require patience, empathy, and good people skills, combined with an ability to know when and how to be assertive. Have a good day chaps!
