First-timers 'rush to beat Stamp Duty deadline'
Wednesday 4th November 2009Countrywide Property Auctions is putting on three extra auctions this month, on November 17, 18 and 19 in London, Glasgow and Manchester.
The firm says that so far over 240 sellers are signed up, all committed to sell before Christmas, whilst interest is high from first-time buyers wanting to buy and complete their purchases before the Stamp Duty holiday ends on December 31.
Mark Tanton, Countrywide’s chief auctioneer, said: “In this market, people are looking to move fast before house prices increase and to beat the return of Stamp Duty. We’ve been overwhelmed with the variety of stock going under the hammer.”
Lots include several properties under the current £175,000 Stamp Duty threshold, including a £90,000 flat in Gloucester and a two-up, two-down terrace in Colne, Lancashire, with a guide price of £35,000.
