Within days of the revelation that a Neil Patel has started a new business in Canada called Webidiotz, that says it has the sole aim of making its clients rich, the Official Receiver for OneMove has written to UK creditors confirming they have lost their money.

He has told them to expect nothing from the collapse of the firm, founded by Neil Patel, who left a trail of debts behind him before going to Canada.

There, he launched a short-lived blog called lifeafteronemove, in which he described restaurant meals, rounds of golf and his next business plans.

Meanwhile, in the UK, his creditors wondered if they would ever see their money again. They now know they won’t.

The Receiver says there appears to be “no prospect” of a distribution of any money.

OneMove offered a ‘move handling’ service with conveyancing and was based in Isleworth, Middlesex. It expanded into other services such as insurance, HIPs and removals, set up a free property portal and even launched a TV channel.  Its offering was based on a network of estate agents, who paid to belong.

The Official Receiver estimates the company’s total assets as nil, and total debts at £1,331,102. This includes unpaid loans of £1,140,000 and County Court judgements of £43,520.

The winding up order was made last November by the tax office. HMRC was owed £145,400 in unpaid tax.

The Receiver notes that the directors of OneMove were Neil Patel and Martin Johnson, with the latter ceasing to act early in 2008. Patel had attributed the collapse of his company to lack of sales, caused by the property market crashing. He ceased trading in May 2008, unable to meet staff wages and rent arrears.

There is to be no creditors’ meeting, but the Receiver would be interested in receiving any information concerning the company and its dealings.

The address is: Mr PLM Lunn, Official Reciever, London C, 21 Bloomsbury Street, London WC1B 3SS.

I know Neil personally, he is from the UK, born and raised, lives in Canada with his wife and children. Maybe he did things wrong in the UK but here he seems to be trying to make a living

Get Profile It’s very interesting to read all your comments and to see such a disregard for companies and individuals. Let me remind you all that it’s is not just estate agents who are in this predicament. I was under the impression that this site was for discussion and debate. Not for insults and derogatory comments. I feel for those who are facing redundancy and for business owners who could lose everything. A number of you seem to think that you are infallible to the market and what is occurring, if this is the case than I wish you every success. For those who are doing what they can to survive. Keep doing it! A little bit of decorum would be appreciated by the readers.

Martyn - you really have done it this time! Both feet...big splash...all brown and nitrogenous! In your words - "Why is it that bigoted middle-Englanders seek to attach a cultural or ethnic stereotype to the actions of a single individual..." So... "Bigoted middle-Englanders" isn't stereotyping? You Muppet! (absolutely NOT intended as a racial or cultural slur - although I imagine I've p****d off all my Muppet friends...)

Martyn - a few questions now that you are obviously back on a crusade. 1) Why did you use apostrophes with the name Neil? Is that not the man's name? Or are you stereotyping him by inferring that he has taken another 'British' name, like call-centre workers? 2) How do you know John S is a UK national? He could be from anywhere... 3) How do you think that ethnic/cultural stereotypes came into being in the first place? Cultural and religious beliefs and rules are what certain people eitrher choose to - or are made to - live by. If you want proof, remove your rose-tinted spectacles (or blinkers - the jury is out as to which you choose to wear...), take a look down ANY High Street - then - and ONLY THEN - smell the coffee.
I look forward to your responses...

John S - SHAME ON YOU! You've gone and set Martyn off again. His blood pressure was only just returning to normal after the last episode...

"in his homeland"? I expect 'Neil' Patel's homeland is probably the UK just like yours. Why is it that bigoted middle-Englanders seek to attach a cultural or ethnic stereotype to the actions of a single individual if that person happens to be anything other than white? Ignorant pleb.

Can't HMRC and other creditors chase him through the Canadian courts? I guess Patel would be a name to avoid. I understand in his homeland the number of times a man has been made bankrupt increases his marriage prospect. It demonstrates business acumen, a prized virtue in that culture
