Agents in Kent have come under fire for failing to mention in their particulars the fact that a £247,000 bungalow, which appears to be ideal for a nuclear family, backs on to one of Europe's largest power stations, at Dungeness.

The station emits a constant hum – as buyers of the property, which is less than 80 yards away – might notice.

The agents, Geerying & Colyer, highlight the property's three bedrooms, conservtory and half acre garden, whilst the exterior shot of the picture shows the property from the site, omitting the looming nuclear power station just yards away, but showing acres of Romney Marsh instead.

The property is also on with Calcutt Maclean Standen whose particulars focus on the property's original features and presentation. A spokesman said: "You'll either love the place or hate it. There's no middle ground."

A spokesman for Geerying & Colyer told today's Telegraph that anywhere on Dungeness is close to the power station, adding:"Anyone who wants to know the location of any property in relation to it can just go on to Google Earth and see it for themselves."Calcut

Put the power station in and lose the instruction. Put it on tv and the media cost the vendor £250,000 because they wont be able to sell it. Who are the real criminals?

Must be a PMA offence. Savilles were pulled up several years ago on "Photographic Misrepresentation". For Mr Bolton King to appear on BBC last night and say "no legal requirement" I don't think has helped!

Taking the story at face value and as reported on the BBC G&C have done us no favours. This type of story reinforces the image of estate agents as distorters of the truth and therefore untrustworthy. And don't forget, we can be held liable under PMA for misdescription by omission. As for their spokesman saying 'Go on Google Earth' - someone should give him a lesson in how to handle the media...

To all the 'young bucks' reading this - there wouldn't have been a problem with a nuclear power station in the olden days. You'd have been 'creative' with your sales details - and run out of Letraset trees, that's for certain!! These guys have probably just photoshopped out a whole powerplant. Ahhhh - progress... ;-)!
