Heard the one about the gay estate agent and the nun? |
Monday 21st September 2009
At EAT, we’re intrigued to learn about a new play which stars a gay estate agent who falls in love with a nun.
As you do.
The play, Forsaken, can currently be enjoyed in Exeter.
It is set in an abbey which is about to be sold to the buyer offering the most money – an American who wants to turn it into a flashy hotel. Tut, tut and thrice tut.
The local newspaper critic tells us there are many good things about this production, especially the sensitive handling of the uneasy relationship between the nun and the estate agent. (We’re thinking Audrey Hepburn and Graham Norton as the hapless pair, crossed with David Icke, and maybe touches of Simon Cowell here. The only person who appears to be missing is Rolf Harris, but you never know.)
Apparently, there’s some Latin chanting accompanied by rhythmic movement (according to the critic, that’s good).
However, the relationship between the nun and the estate agent could apparently have been developed in more depth (that’s bad).
We also learn that the nun is anxious to stick to her vows, despite the strength of her feelings for the estate agent.
Streuth!!
It is being staged by the Particular Theatre Company, and we’d just like to tell our more sensitive readers in the west country that they have only until Saturday to catch this production. If you do, please send us your own review.

| | Perhaps he was taken by the rustle of the under garments!? |
| | Dino, I'm told on good authority that the part of the estate agent is played by a man. Anyway, hilarious piece - made my day. Not sure I'd want to see the play, though. |

Reminds me of the play Abelard and Eloise which involved a nun. In one scene, there was an intimate moment and the mother superior caught them - she shouted "How could you today of all days - its good friday"
One of the audience shouted out "Its good anyday". |
