Home sellers stay away from the market, says Rightmove
Monday 19th January 2009A sharp drop in the number of new instructions has been recorded on Rightmove.
Its latest report, out today, found that the number of new instructions in January are less than half of those in January last year, down from 89,000 to 43,000.
However, the site claims that applicant inquiries have soared, with 429,560 in the first two weeks of this month compared with 199,762 for the same period in 2008.
Asking prices on the site have fallen 1.9% from December to January, to an average of £213,570.

Get Profile | Someone at rightmove is definately spinning the figures to say agents are getting more enquiries |

Get Profile | You lot need to get a life. Get on with your jobs unless you actually have anything to say that’s worth reading. RM is no one fault but the sheep you are that built their strength. Why is it always the same Muppets that post negatives about anything that appears positive??? |

Get Profile | I cant understand RM either. A while back they announced savings. I have challenged them on this on 3 occassions and still have not had a response. I think they are in a mess and have no direction and agree with comments made here that they may be on their way out. |

Get Profile | i just dont understand Rightmove at all, they have enough problems with Agents leaving them in their droves due to their very high subscription charges, yet do not help their excisting clients with stupid comments about the market. Do they really need to make any comments at all!! |

Get Profile | January so far that is - seeing as we're still in January that actually would be a Rightmovy thing to say :) |

Get Profile | If I remember there wasn't a one4all enquiry system last year so I bet RM are counting 1 enquiry to 50 agents as 50 enquiries. Saying that we did have a record number of uniques on our site in January. |

Get Profile | Thanks for the info Rightmove. Is it the experienced agents are moving away from the site who are the market players, rightmove will will be left with wanna be agents. I think Rightmove has finished themselves. Try to give agents -RIGHTMOVE PROPERTY GUIDE - RIGHTMOVE PMA TESTS - etc etc is just not working for them - wait and see what James Caan will come up with - if any one can Caan can..I have to say that Aaron Turner is a bit of a nob, -Where's My SHARES you promised me ??????? they will also have problems on there hands |

Get Profile | its clear to see, agents are leaving RM for one reason or another! I think RM need to do something quick or its game over! |

Get Profile | A very strange time of year to offer such information!! In my area the majority of home owners are more worried about thier jobs and being able to keep their own property than to sell. With more and more property now showing little if no equity downsizing is not an easy option. As for their term "applicants" this is not true, nearly all the enquiries we get are for details only and far from being able to proceed. |

Get Profile | It's not rocket science. RM, last week, claimed that their agent numbers were holding because although they had lost 20%, they had been replaced by equal numbers of new agents. What do new agents NOT have?.....Clients. All these new agents will have no instructions, which is the REAL problem (please don't talk to me about first time buyers) and they will go bust within 9 months. Can they not even analyse their own statistics? |
Posted By Vossy on Monday 19th January 2009 10:58:02
Get Profile | Whilst it is no surprise that numbers of new instructions have fallen I sincerely hope that in RM case it is compounded by the fact that so many Agents have taken their business elsewhere! |
