Propertyfinder takes aim at top place in portals battle
Friday 24th October 2008While the Digital Property Group talked about closing the gap on Rightmove, competitor Propertyfinder made similar claims.
Yesterday it announced that it had 1.3m unique visitors in September, a rise of 16.5% from August, according to Comscore.
The September Comscore figures show that Propertyfinder is ahead of FindaProperty, with 1.3m visitors compared to 1.2m.
However, a little number crunching shows that Propertyfinder network’s overall figures at 1.67m, which include 371,000 for UK Property Shop and 279,000 for HotProperty, are behind those of the Digital Group as a whole, which are over 2 million. In September, Primelocation alone provided 824,000 of the latter’s tally of visitors.
But the figures did mean that, as individual sites, Propertyfinder could claim over 100,000 more visitors than Findaproperty.
Propertyfinder also said that on three separate days in September, it had over 100,000 unique visitors on each day for the first time.
It also said that despite a slowing housing market, a record number of leads were sent to member agents.
Propertyfinder chief executive Gillian Kent emphasised, as did Digital, that her business is investing in itself by growing its team of account and business development managers. She said they would be helping agents to make the most of their online presence.
Kent, who took over at the start of this year, said: “Since early summer we have invested heavily in marketing, bringing a new marketing director on board and driving initiatives to increase traffic to our member agents’ properties at what is a difficult time for them. We have focused on improving our search marketing and improving links with our partner sites and it is paying off.
“By powering the property search facility for some of the UK’s biggest websites and home moving sites, we can drive high volumes of active home movers to our members’ properties.
“On the days that we had over 100,000 unique visitors, we saw significant spikes in traffic from MSN due to cross promotions and editorial content. Over the next few months the marketing team is going to be working closely with our other partners to improve performance and I am confident that this model will enable us to keep growing and providing our members with a better service.
“We provide excellent value for money and have no intention of raising our fees while the market remains so tough. We are dedicated to doing everything within our means to help agents through this difficult market.
“Our position as number two in the market is now cemented and the gap between us and Rightmove is closing. If we continue to improve at this rate, and outperform our competitors, there is no reason that we can’t be number one in the portal market.”
