Around four per cent of calls to estate agents' offices are taken by a telephone answering specialist between 8am and 9am - when many branches are still shut.

Another six per cent are taken between 6pm and 9pm, again when branches are typically closed, according to Moneypenny.

It says it answered over 300,000 calls to agents on an overflow basis between January 1 and March 31.

Based on the firm's records of calls taken for over 850 agents, March was predictably the busiest month with Monday March 16 the single busiest day of the year to date.

Monday has been highlighted on average as the day of the week agents most need call handling support - 9.5 per cent busier than the next up, Friday. The busiest hours are between 9am and 10am, and 11am and noon.

The most calls seeking valuations or appraisals were recorded around 1pm, 9am and 11am.

Plus, the analysis found that Moneypenny took more calls for agents on a Saturday than on a Thursday.

During the solar eclipse of March 20, call volumes dropped by nine per cent as the UK took advantage of the opportunity to view the rare spectacle.

I think that most sales agents provide their clients with mobile numbers for out of hours calls so I dont think the Moneypenny report whilst interesting does not indicate that estate agents should extend their opening hours.

So Moneypenny produce a report that concludes that we need to open longer hours and increase their business!!
