The BBC may have sacked Jeremy Clarkson but has made a left-field appointment to the line up of its popular Homes Under The Hammer show - former Manchester United footballer Dion Dublin.

The England-capped footballer has traded the 'Theatre of Dreams' for standing next to Martin Roberts and Lucy Alexander on the BBC One show where he will be meeting budding developers from around the country hearing their stories of homes sold under the hammer.

The format of the show, which is shortly kicking off its 19th season, involves three properties bought at auction, and a review of the renovations the buyers plan plus - sometimes - the problems they encounter en route to making a profit.

I'm thrilled to be joining Martin and Lucy. I've a passion for property and look forward to meeting people on the show who share that passion says Dublin.

He's dreadful on MOTD, so he can't be any worse on this. Still, one of the more interesting post-football career moves. And just so unexpected and out-there it's scarcely believable.

Biggest news of yesterday by far! Forget Clarkson being sacked or Zayn leaving One Direction, Dion Dublin joining Homes Under the Hammer trumped it all. You couldn't make it up! So random.
