OnTheMarket is now up and running but criticisms of the new portal are still coming thick and fast.
The main issue repeatedly raised is the requirement that estate agents signing up to OnTheMarket are required to drop either Zoopla or Rightmove.
Gavin Brazg of house selling advice site, TheAdvisory.co.uk, points out that from 26 January Rightmove will have 16,334 registered agents and Zoopla 13,127. OnTheMarket will have just 5,000.
All properties for sale can be found by visiting Rightmove & Zoopla. OnTheMarket will only have less of what is already available to browse on the established portals, so it's hard to see how they will attract much needed visitors, he says, Fundamentally I think agents choosing to use the new contender will be perceived to project a very negative set of values to potential clients with an inference that says, I care more about my bottom line than I do about your house sale'.
Brazg goes on to say that no matter how much an agency saves on portal fees, if they don't have any clients, they're dead in the water.

I remember now.
Can somebody - ANYBODY - please advise me... who the chuff is 'TheAdvisory'
Actually our tag line is to give best advice and then you'll remunerate us.
I care more about my bottom line than I do about your house sale.
Errr, isn't that why we're all in business.... to make the best profits we can
Signed, a non-OTM user!
Exactly! I think people are forgetting that it has taken Rightmove over a decade to get to where it is now. Considering OTM started yesterday, I think the number of properties is quite impressive...
How many properties did Rightmove have on day 1
There aren't many properties on there!
zoopla will always be number two year after year..
why pays for two
rightmove will win
The only people that hyped it up write "news" (!) articles on here.
Well, it is the day after the much-hyped launch of a new property portal, of course the majority of stories are going to be regarding that. How do you know the other stories you talk of won't be covered later in the week
The backlash has begun...this should be fun. OntheMarket's requirement that estate agents drop one of Rightmove or Zoopla doesn't seem to have been adhered to so far, given the evidence posted by someone in the article yesterday.
The day after HMRC confirmed the doubling of charges for estate agents to "register for money laundering" and the removal of the cap on large corporate agents from a limit of 20 offices to ALL of their offices and this estate agency "news" website is still obsessed with On The Market really shows the value of this website to its customers...

The simple way to search for farms, estates and land in the UK
I rest my case (for the moment) :)
Most of the 5000 agents listed still seem to be with RM AND Z - A lot of bets being hedged...
