Joby Russel has been appointed director of online estate agency Purplebricks.com in addition to his role of marketing director at Confused.com.

Russell will work closely with James Kydd, Purplebricks' marketing director to drive forward the advertising and marketing strategy.

Russel told marketing trade magazine The Drum: The estate agency model is no longer relevant to modern consumers and is in desperate need of a shakeup. The days of browsing estate agents' windows are long gone and there is no longer a need for consumers to pay staggering commissions to agents.

I am excited to be part of the Purplebricks team quite simply because Purplebricks is disrupting the estate agency market as price comparison sites have done to high street insurance brokers.

Online estate agent Purplebricks launched in April 2014.

"If you head the marketing at British Airways, doesn't mean you need to fly the fleet of 747's!"

I couldn't agree more, Mr Jury. HOWEVER... to then burst into the cockpit and tell the Pilot and First Officer that their job can be done better without them you should at least have a vague understanding of aeronautics.

You consistently demonstrate that you have none whatsoever - and therefore you simply crash and burn every time.

You guys really don't get it do you The fact you know brain the robot means he has done his job! It's an incredibly successful campaign if you look at the performance.

I received similar comments on my hire regarding no estate agency knowledge.

Doing marketing for confused.com suddenly makes him a master of estate agency with a crystal ball which predicts the end of high street agents... Hahaha is this some sort of joke

mypad, one of the first agents to really get the online model right, made a similar annoucement 1-2 years ago, taking on the former marketing exec of Sony (if I remember correctly). I havent seen any major changes there and doubt we will here. Again, people with no knowledge of the sector making outlandish remarks that all us 'normal' agents are doomed. I think the largest hurdle to the online 'revolution' will be all these agents (mypad, purplebricks, easyproperty, etc) competing with each other for a small market share that will ultimately undo each otjers efforts. Even if they are right and consumer want the online model (certainly nothing our clients are interested in) they are all ignoring how difficult it is to change peoples habits- this does not happen overnight but over the course of years or even decades. Us 'doomed' agents will st and watch with great amusement as this continues to unfold in the coming months and years.

Very true. "Hi, I'm Brian and I'm incredibly irritating. Confused.commmmm!" That seems to be the gist of their adverts. Hopefully he can produce something better for Purplebricks, but I don't hold out too much hope.
