If you think competition between agents can get cut-throat in this country, just have a look at what's happening in mild and meek New Zealand.

Over there, one agent has sent his rival a package of poo in the post (allegedly).

The New Zealand Herald reports that estate agent Grant Tucker has pleaded not guilty to a charge of posting faeces to a rival agent. He has also denied a charge of using a telephone to offend the same rival agent, Jonathan Wills, with obscene language.

Tucker is a director of Netrealty while Wills is a director of Custom Residential. Both agents sell homes in high-end neighbourhoods in Auckland.

The police have told a preliminary court hearing that the offending package had not been sent to experts for examination for "health and safety reasons" but they have promised to present witness statements and photos of the contents when the matter goes to the decisive trial in October.

Tucker's lawyer says that without forensic evidence there was no proof that the offending item was indeed a "noxious substance" on the inference of smell alone. She also said the allegedly obscene voicemail message - which was not detailed at the preliminary hearing - did not meet the criteria of obscene' in the modern age.

The judge remanded Tucker on bail until next month. Posting a noxious substance attracts a maximum penalty of a $5000 fine, while the voicemail charge could bring up to three months' jail.

As unclassy as putting a poo in people's mailboxes is, many people do it as a joke... How do we even know the other agent posted it

This made me laugh. Pretty unpleasant behaviour, yes, but quite an entertaining story to read of a Wednesday morning.
