An appeal has been made for anyone who knows anything about the former agent and auctioneer Skelding and Boucher - a company which, almost 50 years ago, was at the centre of a dispute about sales of homes to black buyers.
Sylvia Boucher, who believes she may be related to those involved in the agency in the past, has contacted local media in the West Midlands to appeal for information about the agency, which had offices in Stourbridge and Wolverhampton.
I remember the office in Stourbridge when I was a child, but unfortunately there is no one left in our family now who can tell me anything. There are Skeldings in my family tree and the Bouchers have lived in Stourbridge since the early 1800's so I would love to know if my ancestors began the business says Sylvia Boucher, whose email address is sylvibp@aol.com.
Research by EAT has discovered a news report made by ATV, one of the past West Midlands franchise holders for ITV; it is currently on the Media Archive for Central England.
In the report the presenter states the agency was at the centre of a dispute in 1965 when it allegedly refused to sell a house to an Indian buyer, under instruction from the seller.
Comments
Bit harsh. It's an article about a lady trying to track her background and possible relation to a past agent and auctioneer, an agent and auctioneer that were at the centre of a race storm. What would you rather them do, leave it out, erase it from history Nothing is stated as fact, they're just allegations. I don't see any stirring going on here, I'm afraid.
So this is news
Or is EAT trying to stir up trouble
Ridiculous 'journalism'.
